skin Care Confessions: Looking for clues in the lab You don't need a Sherlock Holmes magnifying glass to uncover the crimes people commit against their skin. "Most women tend to wash their faces, slap on powder and off they go," said Melanie Vasseur , aesthetician and founder of Vasseur Scientific Skincare in San Diego. "Daily maintenance of skin is the best investment one can make. It's better than Starbucks, and about the same price." Ms. Vasseur speaks from experience. At age 11, she was already dealing with blemishes. Unsatisfied with her skin after seeing a dermatologist, she started working with an aesthetician for weekly facials, packing her lunch each day so she could afford them. She credits that care with leaving no visible acne scars on her skin today. Her interest in skin care and overall health led her to a career in nutritional sciences and food chemistry. When her students started asking more questions about her perfect skin than the class subject matter, she decided to develop her own skin care line and open her own spa. She noticed that many of the ingredients in skin care products were preservatives--processed and unnecessary. She started developing her own products using naturally occurring and vitamin-based ingredients. According to Ms. Vasseur, Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHA) are one of the best skin care ingredients. They help exfoliate the skin's top layer, accelerating the production of new cells, which leaves the complexion feeling smoother and cleaner. AHA is used in her Reveal 10 moisturizer. To improve the appearance of fine lines, she developed Idebenone Cream. Idebenone is an antioxidant, like Vitamins C and E, which are also contained in the cream. Her ALA (Alpha Lipoic Acid) Cream makes other antioxidants more powerful, helping with under eye bags and puffiness. Her Day Cream 25 is a five-in-one solution: anti-oxidant, exfoliant, anti-aging, SPF 25, and moisturizer. Her logic is that many people do not want five creams. "Once my clients begin using it, six months later, I start to get orders from their friends," she explained. When her daughter told her she was getting wrinkles, Ms. Vasseur developed her Eye-Q Gel. Aloe-based, it is a topical BOTOX with amino acids. "If you've had too much salt or wine the night before, IQ Gel is going to make your eyes look so much better," she explained. . According to Ms. Vassuer, it is never too late to start taking care of your skin. Her advice is simple. Start with the right cleanser, pH balanced, use the right daytime products, and add a moisturizer at night. "Everyone looks at your face first," she said. "Women will spend money on shoes and purses, but your face is a much better investment." With overwhelming evidence and the testimony of the experts, it has been proven beyond a reasonable doubt that skincare creams can help fight against fine line wrinkles. Case closed |
